do you guys know Monday Morning Books? they are very sweet and helpful books that have fun ideas and jumping points for teachers and parents. i've used many of their books in many aspects of my life. i used them with my toddlers when i was teaching preschool, i used (and still use) them with irene and rhys, and i use them as a substitute. my mom and even moreso - her co-teacher use them a lot as well.
anyway, they have a blog and they are running a contest - you can get $100.00 of FREE BOOKS!!! did you see that? FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE books!!! Marilynn Barr does a lot of the illustrations for the books (as well as writing several of them too) - she draws very fun and engaging illustrations that help to draw the kids in. These books work for children of all ages and abilities, i think.
currently, we have the timeline from Journey To the Moon Timeline around one of the kids little book nooks. rhys, especially, loves to look at the different things on it. and there is also Twinkle Twinkle which has all sorts of cool space projects geared for the pre-k/k crowd.
There are books for teachers of older kids as well (i haven't used those much - YET - but i'm sure i will).
something else that is fun is seeing what the kids do with the projects on their own - sometimes it's completely different from the idea that was in the book, but just as valid. it's really cool to watch the creativity flow from my kids.
so - GO GO GO to Monday Morning Books Blog and make a comment so that you can maybe win $100.00 in these wonderful books!!!!!
oh! you should also check out Marilynn's Café Press site too!
and on another note - please wish me luck tomorrow...i'm taking a test...3 tests actually and am feeling WOEFULLY unprepared...it's on nevada school law, nevada constitution, and US constitution...may i not psych myself out and just be calm and not second guess myself as i answer the multiple choice quesitons...
